NASPA Members Can Make a Difference in Their Communities through #NASPAServes21
We are expanding our service impact leading up to the 2021 Virtual Conference and YOU’RE INVITED!
The New Year is here, but many of us are feeling overwhelmed with the continued strain of persevering through a pandemic and finding hope in a society that often seems torn apart.
During times of stress and division, it is even more important to engage with efforts that strengthen our communities and promote positive change. This action can fill us and others with immeasurable hope. So, whether you already participate in volunteer activities, or are new to community service, we invite you to join #NASPAServes21!
When is it? February 15th, 2021 - March 15th, 2021
What is it? A campaign to encourage engagement with service initiatives leading up to the 2021 NASPA Virtual Conference.
How can I participate? Volunteer in your home communities or virtually, and record your service experiences! Tag your experiences on social media with #NASPAServes21.
NASPA is committed to fostering community, civic, and democratic engagement to promote student success, and members have a history of engaging with service during the annual conference and throughout the year. Since the 2021 NASPA Virtual Conference will be conducted from your home location, this revised space gives NASPA members the opportunity to expand our impact to a global scale, serving in ways that directly benefit our communities around the world!
There are many opportunities to engage in service that improves your community. Consider causes that inspire you and gaps that are unmet in your area. Is there an organization or activity you can work with which shares your values and improves an aspect of someone else’s life? Are you passionate about social justice or youth empowerment projects, food insecurity and homelessness, the environment, or animal welfare?
Many of you already volunteer regularly with efforts significant to you. If so, keep it up for #NASPAServes21, and don’t forget to share with us. If you are new to volunteering or want to change up your volunteering routine, we are excited to announce a partnership with GivePulse, a platform connecting inspired community members with organizations and causes looking for volunteers to help make an impact. Using the GivePulse website or mobile app, you can input your geographic location to find volunteer opportunities near you, with the option to narrow search results with additional filters based on causes you care about.
We know that it may have been more difficult to find time for service this year as many of us are choosing to safely socially-distance or live in locations with stay-at-home orders. For that reason, we encourage you to consider virtual service opportunities as well. GivePulse can help here too--simply search using the virtual filter to find online and remote opportunities.
With both in-person and virtual experiences, there are plenty of ways to volunteer during #NASPAServes21. How ever you decide to participate, share it with us! We want to capture how you all give your time to improve the lives of others, so please record your service projects at any time during the campaign.
Having a hard time knowing where to get involved? Share your thoughts with us on Twitter or Facebook with #NASPAServes21 and get ideas from the planning committee and your NASPA colleagues around the country for great ways to get involved throughout the month! The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope."Barack Obama, Dreams of My Father
