Building an Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Respecting the Past 20 Years and Responding to the Current Campus Culture
Founded in 1999, Trinity College's Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) responded to student demands for a more diverse and inclusive campus. The Women and Gender Resource Action Center and the Queer Resource Center joined OMA with all three functioning as moderately independent units. In 2018, Trinity hired its inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) who prioritized unifying the team. We will show how we used established tools to bring authenticity to the workplace, unify our area, and impact the entire campus.
