2020 NASPA Annual Conference

Developing a Comprehensive Parent and Family Program

PC 49

Parents and family members play a vital role in the lives of college students today. In addition, parents and family members have key expectations of higher education institutions. They expect safety, academics, and outcomes for their students (Carney-Hall, 2006). While annual campus events for parents and family members have existed since the 1940s, many colleges and universities have been intentionally developing comprehensive parent and family programs and services since the early 2000s. This pre-conference workshop is designed for institutions who do not currently have a comprehensive parent and family program but are looking to build one from scratch.
