Toward a Divisional Curriculum: Institutional Values to Individual Learning Outcomes

PC 14

The debate on whether learning occurs outside the classroom is over. Student affairs practitioners across the country are experimenting with various curricular models (Kerr & Tweedy, 2006). Creating a curricular model for a department can be difficult. At Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, we have undertaken the challenge of creating a divisional curriculum executed by all departments within Student Life. In this session we will guide you through the process of operationalizing your institutional values in a manner that can withstand critical review, organizing learning in a developmental scaffolding (AACU), articulating measurable learning outcome (Rhodes, 2010), and creating a model to execute a divisional curriculum.
